WEB EXCLUSIVES A new slip-additive concentrate is specially formulated for critical applications like multilayer barrier and lamination film that require non-migratory properties and a controlled medium coefficient of friction (COF). Available from Ingenia Polymers, Houston, IP1069 is a pellet containing a proprietary blend of additives said to be inherently non-migratory. Moreover, it is said to be stable at high processing temperatures, allowing for more predictable slip levels in applications where volatility may be of concern. Tests of three-layer blown films with either IP1069 or erucamide added to the core layer (graph) show that COF values of the erucamide film drop with time as the erucamide migrates to the outer layer while the COF of the film containing the non-migratory slip remains constant. When IP1069 is added directly to the outer layer, a constant medium level of slip is obtained. Ingenia says IP1069 is heavy-metal-free and complies with CONEG and FDA regulations.
