Recycling of polypropylene is made more difficult by the presence of various colorants and nucleators in mixed batches of reclaim, which can affect shrinkage and warpage. Milliken Chemical, Spartanburg, S.C., says this problem can be solved by adding a high-performance nucleant to “level out” the different recycle streams. Milliken’s latest Hyperform HPN-68L “hyper-nucleating” agent reportedly imparts the highest Tc (peak crystallization temperature) of any PP nucleating agent. When added to recycled PP, it raises the Tc to a consistent level, allowing for faster and more consistent processing. Hyperform also promotes isotropic shrinkage, which helps reduce warpage. It’s called the “Final Frontier” but maybe space is actually a closer to a present-day trendsetter. What does that mean?
