The largest cascade reclaim extruder ever built in the Merritt line from Davis-Standard LLC in Pawcatuck, Conn., will be delivered this month to ABC Polymers Inc., a recycler in Stone Mountain, Ga. Designed for post-consumer and industrial reclaim, it has oversized horsepower, filtration, and devolatilization capabilities and output of up to 3500 lb/hr. The cascade consists of two 6-in., 27:1 L/D extruders. The first has 600 hp, is ram fed, and uses an oversized continuous screen changer with four 8-in. chambers—twice the norm for an extruder of that size. A melt pump feeds a transfer pipe to a “shower-head” die, which extrudes strands downward through a devolatilization chamber. This can be at atmospheric pressure or under vacuum for hygroscopic materials that need to be protected from moisture. The second 6-in. extruder has 200 hp and is vented (a new feature on the company’s large models), allowing final cleanup of volatiles. A second continuous screen changer has finer (400-mesh) filtration. (860) 599-1010 • www.davis-standard.com
