The weight of iced-tea and fruit-drink bottles was cut from 23.5 g to 18.6 g through structural bottle design, according to the company. The lightweighting will reportedly eliminate about 20 million lb/yr of plastic waste. The bottle ranks as one of the lightest for flavored, non-carbonated beverages. Using finite-element modeling, weight was reduced throughout the bottle without sacrificing strength, Pepsi says.
