WEB EXCLUSIVE: Compared with all previous grades of Ultrason polyethersulfone (PESU) from BASF Corp., Engineering Plastics, Wyandotte, Mich., new Ultrason KR 4113 has dramatically reduced friction and wear. It contains carbon fiber, graphite, and PTFE. In ring-on-plate sliding-wear tests, the wear rate is only half that for standard carbon-fiber reinforced Ultrason E. It is being used in a new generation of oil pumps, where it shows lower sliding friction and wear than galvanized aluminum.
