A new line of bioplastic sheet products from Spartech Corp., Clayton, Mo., is made of polylactic acid (PLA) resin from NatureWorks LLC, Minnetonka, Minn. Spartech's Rejuven8 custom sheet and rollstock are developed specifically for thermoforming. They boast excellent clarity and die-cutting characteristics plus strength similar to general-purpose acrylic. Rejuven8 Plus sheet is a modified grade with enhanced physical properties and impact strength similar to PET. This opaque white material was developed for graphic arts and printing but is claimed to work well in thermoforming. Adjustments can be made to raise the material's heat resistance to over 200 F compared with 105 to 120 F for standard PLA. Sheet widths are 12 to 48 in. and roll widths are 1 to 48 in. Thicknesses are 10 to 40 mils. Rejuven8 sheet is aimed at food packaging, drinking cups, and tableware, while Rejuven8 Plus is for consumer packaging, gift and phone cards, and plant tags.
