Battenfeld Extrusionstechnik in Germany (U.S. office at American Maplan in McPherson, Kan.) has designed a new planetary roller extruder with higher output for PVC calendering and pelletizing and wood-composite extrusion. The nine planetary spindles are the first that are fully reversible (back-to-front) for longer wear life: The redesign also boasts more efficient heat exchange and a new multi-function ring between planetary barrel segments, which accurately measures pressure and temperature inside the planetary extruder for the first time. American Maplan has a medium-sized PWE 170/250 model in its lab with a single-screw discharge extruder for wood-composite trials.
