Superior mold cooling and shorter cycle times are said to be possible with a new mold baffle design from D-M-E Co., Madison Heights, Mich., that improves turbulent flow in the mold cooling channels. The Turbulent Flow Baffle is made from
plastic rather than brass. It is said to nearly eliminate laminar flow in cooling channels, which impedes heat transfer. Turbulent flow with the baffle can boost heat transfer three-fold and improve cycle time up to 20%, says D-M-E. The design eliminates “blow-by” and seals the plastic blade of the baffle within the cooling channels to ensure uniform cooling.
