A new energy-efficient drying hopper from Dri-Air Industries Inc., East Windsor, Conn., features a non-conductive plastic outer cover that reportedly provides some heat insulation. The 0.032-in.-thick Tuff-Wrap plastic cover reportedly provides a 7% to 10% energy savings compared with all-steel hoppers. The hopper is available in 5- to 2000-lb capacities. Also new from Dri-Air is the Mini-Feed metering device for smallshot molding. It moves small amounts of dried material from the drying hopper to the feed throat of the processing machine. Currently, the amount of material stored outside the hopper in distribution boxes and machine-mounted receivers can amount to 2 to 4 hr of storage. As a result, the dried material is likely to pick up moisture. The Mini-Feed ensures that the dried material is kept in the hopper until the receiver calls for new material.
