At the K 2007 show in Dusseldorf in October, DuPont Engineering Polymers, Wilmington, Del., will be highlighting a number of recent developments including several high-heat resins for electrical/electronic applications.

Corrosion-free Zytel HTN PPAs are for electrical circuits and connectors in high-temperature automotive environments. Unlike conventional nylons, these resins do not contain stabilizers that can migrate and corrode electrical components.

Thermx TE 4004 is a new PCT polyester for pencil-coil auto ignition systems. These parts are shrinking in size while delivering higher energy. That requires a material that fl ows easily in thin walls and has higher dielectric strength at elevated temperature, as well as excellent adhesion to epoxy encapsulants. Another Thermx grade will be introduced this year with even better flow properties and no compromise of performance, DuPont says.

Zytel HTN FR52G30NH PPA and Rynite RE 19041 PET are halogen-free compounds with UL 94V-0 flame resistance at 0.8 mm and UL CTI >500 V. The PET grade boasts a 775 C glow-wire ignitability temperature (GWIT), required by IEC 60335 for some E/E components in office printers and lamp sockets. The 30% glass-filled PPA is for connectors, heavy-duty circuit breakers, and contactors.

Zenite ZE55201 is an ultra-low-warp LCP designed to maintain flatness in connectors, chip-card holders, and large parts for ovens and other appliances. Shrinkage in the cross-flow direction has been reduced more than 50% compared with other grades, DuPont says.

Zenite ZE55801 is a palladium-doped, 30% glass-fi lled grade that enables selective electroless chrome plating of connectors for MIDs when used with standard LCP in a two-shot molding process.
