The new PPT3000 pressure tester from Agr International Inc., Butler, Pa., has several novel features, including a high-precision volume-expansion measurement tool and software incorporating the M-Rule Container Performance Model, which predicts shelf life based on thickness measurements of individual containers. Shelf-life prediction based on anticipated CO2 or oxygen transmission is available in about one minute, while actual permeability testing takes several weeks. Shelf-life prediction and pressure and expansion data are displayed on the monitor. The servo-controlled pressure tester also can identify defects in non-pressurized containers.
