A new PC-based shop-floor assembly tracking system is available to supplement process and production monitoring of the molding machines making the parts for assembly. The new PlantStar Assembly System (PAS) from Syscon-Planstar, South Bend, Ind., can be used in conjunction with the company’s SnapShot, Portrait, or Panorama monitoring systems, but PAS is also offered as a stand-alone module. Assembly is tracked by station and by operator. Users can design the assembly station layout on the screen. Users can also build a Bill of Materials for each product, either manually or imported from an ERP system. Work orders can also be imported from other order processing systems. Assembly materials can be requested, allocated, or even returned to stock. Material lots can be input manually or electronically with barcode scanners. Production data, including returned material, can be exported from PAS to an ERP system. The PAS system can integrate with PlantStar’s barcode software to design labels for finished assemblies.
