The fi rst plastic vineyard post is being extruded by Westech Building Products, Mt. Vernon, Ind., using triple saw cuts to create a pointed end to drive into the ground. The PVC post was designed by VinPost Inc., a unit of Okanagan Vinyl Products Inc., Oliver, B.C., Canada. It combines internal intersecting ribs, external fl anges punched in-line with notches to support wires for the grapevines, and three in-line trim cuts. One cut is at 90o for the top of the post, and two cuts at 70o on the unfl anged sides of the profi le create a wedge shape with a fl at bottom. That lets the post stand upright, parallel to other posts when driven into the ground. Vinpost: (888) 658-4695 . www.patentedposts.com
