Solvay Solexis, West Deptford, N.J., has entered into a joint development agreement with Strategic Polymer Sciences, State College, Pa., for large-scale production of ultra-high-energy capacitor materials based on biaxially oriented PVDF films. These are clamed to support about 10X greater energy loads than capacitors made of conventional plastic films. Strategic Polymer Sciences has patents on using these materials in applications such as hybrid electric vehicles and medical defibrillators. The materials are claimed to deliver lower cost, reduced weight, and greater energy efficiency in hybrid vehicles. The global capacitor market for such vehicles is expected to reach $1.6 billion by 2015. (856) 853-8119 • www.solvaysolexis.com (814) 238-7400 • www.strategicpolymers.com
