A new resilient terephthalic polyester for pultrusion is designed to match the properties of isophthalics while allowing 10% to 20% higher line speeds. Polylite 31516-00 from Reichhold, Research Triangle Park, N.C., is a low-styrene (30% or less) resin that is said to be MACT-compliant. It is tough, high in reactivity, and low in viscosity-suitable for direct-injection systems. Applications include window lineals, ladder rails, tool handles, fan shrouds, utility-pole cross-arms, and sheet pilings for seawalls. It can also be used in wet molding. Reichhold says the new resin is "very price-competitive" with isophthalic.
