The first thermoformed frozen food trays of recycled PET were just introduced by Associated Packaging Technologies (APT), Chadds Ford, Pa. The trays, developed for ConAgra Foods, Omaha, will use 30% to 40% post-consumer PET and will divert at least 8 million lb of plastic from landfills each year. APT uses a proprietary process that cleans reclaimed PET for use in a blend with virgin CPET. Previously, only virgin CPET met FDA direct food-contact regulations. There are no performance tradeoffs with the RPET trays, according to APT. It plans to expand their use to its chilled and ready-meal lines. (484) 785-1120 • www. aptechnologies.com
