WEB EXCLUSIVE A new styrenic block copolymer from Kraton Polymers, Houston, improves the compression set and stress relaxation of styrenic TPEs at temperatures above 70 C (158 F). Molecular weight of Kraton G1633 is 50% higher than that of standard SBCs and its compression-set value approaches that of some TPVs. The company says it permits formulation of styrenic TPEs with a broad hardness range, excellent oil extendability, and good processability in extruded and injection molded applications. In addition, Kraton claims that compression set is further optimized when G1633 is used with certain polyolefin blends such as a combination of PP and HDPE.
