A new slide gate for dry bulk-solids metering is designed to prevent leakage of air pressure in pneumatic conveying systems. The Vortex HDP slide gate will be shown at NPE this month by Salina Vortex Corp., Salina, Kan. It handles abrasive powders, granules, and pellets. It reportedly can isolate pressure up to 75 psig without leaking, suiting it to placement at the discharge of bins or silos experiencing high aeration; gates above or below airlocks feeding into higher pressure conveying lines; gates for dense-phase conveying; and gates used with weigh scales where air-pressure leakage through the valve could cause weight variances. Among the special features of this valve is self-adjusting closing movement, which minimizes wear. As the blade moves horizontally, it rises vertically at the end of the stroke into the sealed position. A displacement pocket at the end of the valve prevents material packing as the blade closes. The blade's special "tombstone" shape is said to make the valve self-cleaning and improves sealing.
