A new sensor kit for automated sprue cutters senses cutter blade position for better control of the cutting operation. SAS Automation, Xenia, Ohio, offers the sensor kit for its ASZ line of sprue cutters. The kit mounts directly on the body of the standard nipper without modification. The robot control receives a signal when the cutter blade is in the fully open position, which is necessary to provide adequate clearance when positioning the blade before cutting. This avoids missing cuts on sprues.
