A new integrated sprue/parts sorting system that operates without any loss of cycle was introduced at the recent Fakuma show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, by the parent of Boy Machines Inc., Exton, Pa. The unit, offered on Boy's 22 and 25 series presses, consists of a compact conveyor and an integrated sorting screw. The molded part and sprue are dropped onto the conveyor belt and carried toward the sorting screw. The rotation of the screw transports the larger item (either part or sprue) into a container while the smaller components pass under the screw into another container. The distance between the sorting screw and conveyor can be adjusted for various part sizes. The sprue system can be placed in the parts-drop area of a horizontal injection machine and does not extend beyond the outer dimensions of the machine.
