Thermylene P8 is a short-glass PP compound from Asahi Kasei Plastics North America Inc., Fowlerville, Mich., offered as a more economical alternative to
long-glass PP. It is said to offer comparable creep resistance at elevated temperatures and even better creep resistance at room temperature vs. long glass. Owing to its proven screw/torque retention, the material was specified for an inner door module in the 2009 Jeep Liberty SUV, an application normally using long-glass PP. The part was molded by Faurecia Interior Systems. The compound uses grafted polymer additives to chemically couple the glass fibers. It’s available in varying glass
levels and virtually any color.
