A new shrink-sleeve labeling system is designed for tapered or conical containers such as dairy, deli, or beverage cups. The R-Series Cup and Tub Labeler from PDC International Corp., Norwalk, Conn., can handle a range of round, oval, and square tubs while maintaining side-to-side graphic orientation. Cups are fed upside-down into the sleeve applicator's product-handling section, which reportedly eliminates product backlog or "shingling." This system can also label bottles and other packages. Prices range from about $100,000 for a system to handle 3-in.-diam. cups at up to 150 cups/min to $300,00 for a unit to handle 6-in.-diam. cups and tubs at 350 cups/min.
