A new side-entry robot designed for production of pipette tips and other medical disposables will be shown at at this month’s Fakuma show in Germany by Hekuma GmbH of Eching. The new aluminum robot is said to be 30% lighter than a welded-steel robot and faster, too. It achieves acceleration of more than 9G with the latest electric drives from SEW Eurodrive. At the show, valves, sensors and other components will be enclosed in the body of the gripper, so that it is not required to install the system in an expensive cleanroom, since the automation system is itself a
cleanroom. At the show, the system will include a vision system and Hekuma technology that checks the outer and inner diameter of each pipette on each cycle with accuracy up to 0.005 mm and also ensures that all 32 parts are demolded in a mold-open time of 0.45 sec.
