New six-axis “shelf-mount” robots suitable for mounting on top of the injection machine’s fixed platen are said to reduce ceiling requirements while delivering a larger “downward working envelope” than standard floor models. The KS series from Kuka Robotics Corp., Sterling Heights, Mich., is designed for machines up to 1200 tons. Three models support payloads up to 132 lb and have a vertical reach up to 1800 mm.
