Two exhibitors at this month's NPE show in Chicago will be showing new high-pressure RIM systems designed for low throughput and low cost. A series of such machines is the latest addition to the RimCell family of RIM equipment from Graco's Gusmer/Decker RIM Group, Lakewood, N.J. The new RimCell Lite high-pressure (3000-psi) machines are priced at under $40,000 and have flow rates of 6 to 30 lb/min. (Larger RimCell RX and Select models dispense 33 to 400 lb/min.) RimCell Lite features the GX15 self-cleaning mixhead, available in both spray and pour versions, with internal recirculation. These units are equipped with Allen-Bradley PLC controls, 10-gal day tanks, and infinitely variable ratio from 5:1 to 1:5. Cooling is optional. A second new family of two-component high-pressure RIM machines is specially designed as a low-cost alternative to low-pressure machines for production of gaskets or dispensing adhesive beads in lamination of automotive sun visors, applications where PUR can replace epoxy or foamed rubber. Newly available from Hi-Tech Engineering, Inc., Grand Rapids, Mich., the new EZRim series has outputs of 10 to 400 lb/min. They have no PLC, controlled by simple relay logic. Starting price is under $35,000, about 25% less than the company's EcoRim unit and 30% to 45% less than conventional RIM units.
