A new radio-frequency preheater for SMC sheet improves the distribution of reinforcements in molded parts and reduces cure time by 50%, especially in thicker bosses and structures. The Macrowave SMC preheater from Radio Frequency Co., Millis, Mass., provides uniform heating instantly throughout the entire thickness of the sheet, without requiring any temperature differential to force heat by conduction from the surface to the center. A PLC controls the heat time, power level, and conveyor movement to synchronize with the press operation. The conveyor can either feed the SMC charge straight through to the press or return it to the feed end after heating. SMC charges up to 30 x 84 in. can be preheated in less than 1 min. Price starts at $75,000. (508) 376-9555 • www.radiofrequency.com
