WEB EXCLUSIVE: Novamont N.A., Ridgefield, Conn., is offering a new, second generation of Mater-Bi starch-based thermoplastic with increased bio-based content. Mater-Bi is a blend of starch polymer from corn and a petro-based thermoplastic binder. Bio content of Mater-Bi previously varied from grade to grade, but the bio-derived carbon content has now been increased to 50%, which corresponds to 56% by weight natural ingredients. Second-generation Mater-Bi incorporates polyesters based on vegetable oils and is based on both food and non-food plant sources. It comes in a wide range of grades for flexible films and extrusion coating.
