Kautex Machines Inc., North Branch, N.J., has introduced the largest machine in its line of suction blow molders. The K3D SB20 is for production of 3D parts such as fuel-tank filler pipes, auto air ducts, and tubes for household appliances. It can be combined with accumulator heads of up to 3.5 liters and used with hard-soft sequential coextrusion. The machine produces pipes with diameters from 15 to 170 mm. Shot weight ranges from a few hundred grams to 2.6 kg. The clamp's fast-close movement is performed by a high-speed hydraulic cylinder and synchronization bars in the base of the machine. The unique mold-locking system engages one hydraulic locking bar on each side of the clamp. For easy access such as for mold changes, the locking bars can be retracted pneumatically. The modular machine also has an adjustable-height extruder platform and horizontal adjustment of the head position via hydraulic cylinders controlled by the machine's PC operator station. Easy access to the mold, die area, and extruder platform is also claimed.
