Davis-Standard, Pawcatuck, Conn., and Gneuss, Matthews, N.C., have joined forces to supply a PET sheet line that requires no material predrying and offers throughput rates of up to 2000 lb/hr. It is aimed particularly at reprocessing PET recycle. The key to the arrangement is Gneuss’ patented MRS (Multi Rotation System) extruder, which features a degassing section that is significantly longer than that of a conventional single- or twin-screw vented extruder in order to allow more efficient removal of volatiles. The machine is also said to impart low shear and thermal stress on the melt while providing excellent
pressure buildup to the die and low energy consumption.
Under the agreement, D-S will be responsible for engineering and project management and will supply the EPIC closed-loop controller, a roll stand with independent speed control, and a turret winder for 48-in.-diam. rolls weighing
more than 5000 lb.
