A new low-styrene, uv-stabilized terephthalic polyester for pultrusion comes from Reichhold Inc., Research Triangle Park, N.C. Dion 31068-00 was developed as a performance match for uv-stabilized isophthalic resins, which recently have been in short supply. The medium-high-reactivity resin enables pultruders to increase line speeds and lower production costs, Reichhold says. Even with low styrene content of 30% or less, the resin boasts low viscosity. It is compliant with California Rules 50 and 1162 and is also suitable for direct injection. Potential applications include window lineals, ladder rails, and tool handles.
