A new measuring device for large plastic tubes from 120 mm (4.72 in.) to 2500 mm (98.43 in.) is being launched by Sikora International (U.S. office in Peachtree City, Ga.). Based on millimeter wave technology, the Centerwave 6000 quality-control device is said to precisely measures online the inner and outer diameter, ovality, wall thicknesses, and the sagging of large tubes.
Measurements are taken at several points of the tube circumference without the need for any coupling media and independently of the material and temperature of the measuring object. Calibration procedures are not necessary. As such, this system reportedly allows for reproducibility of the processes.
