Laboratories operating on a limited budget can now quickly obtain high-quality IR spectroscopic data and perform complete mixture analyses using a new attenuated total reflectance (ATR) accessory for the Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS5 FTIR spectrometer from Thermo Scientific, Waltham, Mass. The new Thermo Scientific iD7 ATR accessory uses an all-diamond crystal to provide the robustness necessary to analyze hard solid samples as well as liquids and powders. The iD7 ATR accessory allows the instrument to use the full spectral range, thanks to optional interchangeable crystals of zinc selenide or germanium in easily swappable plates for specific spectral ranges. Also, the proprietary crystal mounting system is more durable, using no epoxy or laminates. Another benefit is that no sample preparation is necessary.
