The first thermoformable PBT sheet has been introduced by Penn Fibre, Div. of Ensinger, Bensalem, Pa. Five products made from Ticona’s Celanex PBT are offered in rolls and cut sheets 0.010 to 0.250 in. thick. Neat and 15%-glass PBT sheet is available with FDA approval. One version is used in food-processing trays. Three flame-retardant grades (neat, 15% and 30% glass) have UL 94V-0 ratings. They provide heat resistance between that of FR-ABS and more expensive polysulfone and polyetherimide (GE’s Ultem). FR applications include wall panels and interior trim for transportation vehicles.
