New unidirectional and bidirectional tapes of continuous glass fiber impregnated with polypropylene or PE are designed to be used as preformed inserts to reinforce polypropylene/PE parts produced by injection or compression molding or thermoforming. ThermoPro reinforcements from Polystrand Inc., Montrose, Colo., provide added strength and stiffness to PP parts, bonding in the mold to the substrate. The tapes can be formed by compression molding or vacuum-bag autoclaving. ThermoPro was shown at NPE last month in Chicago. The tapes are generally 60% to 70% E or S glass arranged in a parallel or 0/90° orientation.
