A new needle-drive unit for hot-runner valve gates is said to overcome several limitations common to single-shot needle valves. Hasco America Inc., Arden, N.C., says these issues include splitting of the melt, which produces weld lines on flat surfaces; large overall installation height; and inaccurate scale-up from single-cavity development molds to multi-cavity production that uses a different nozzle type. Hasco's new Universal needle valve Z10710 can be used with all Hasco Techni Shot and Value Shot nozzles, offering a wide range of nozzle types and sizes and runner lengths up to 300 mm. It is offered in two standard sizes and is designed not to split the melt stream. The new needle valve can be used either as a single nozzle centrally mounted in the mold or as a drive unit mounted between the manifold and nozzle (such as in a stack or tandem arrangement requiring back-to-back positioning). It can be used in a pre-production or prototype mold and transferred directly to a multi-cavity production tool. The needle valve can be actuated by a pneumatic cylinder mounted outside the mold or with an ultra-compact hydraulic drive inside the mold. Tel: (828) 650-2600 . www.hasco.com
