A new sensing device from JHM Technologies Inc., Fenton, Mich., provides precise injection-pressure control for “Lite” RTM processing. The PIC sensor, a low-cost pneumatic device, is claimed to set a new standard by maintaining pressure control over a range from 4 to 85 psi and reacting to changes as small as 1.4 psi. JHM sources say the Lite RTM process, which typically operates below 10 psi, requires more precise control of injection pressures than standard RTM, which runs at 18 to 45 psi.The PIC device houses a diaphragm on the end of the mixhead. Resin presses on the bottom of the diaphragm as it is pumped to the mold. On top of the diaphragm is a pocket of pressurized air that balances the resin pressure. When the resin pressure exceeds the pre-set pocket air pressure, an immediate signal is sent to the resin pump to slow down. The PIC sensor is standard on the Infuser series of Lite RTM injection systems from JHM. It can also be used on other injection systems. Tel: (810) 629-6515 • www.jhmtechnologies.com
