A new toughened, one-component, heat-curing epoxy adhesive and sealant is designed for high-temperature plastics, including PPO, PPS, and nylons. EP17 compound from Master Bond, Inc., Hackensack. N.J., has a service-temperature range of -300 F to +600 F. It cures in 60 to 90 min at 300 to 350 F. It is said to be resistant to a wide range of chemicals, including fuels, acids, bases, oils, and many solvents. It also boasts very low shrinkage on cure and easy machinability. Tensile strength is 8400 psi, tensile modulus is 387,000 psi, and compressive strength is above 13,000 psi. EP17 is a flowable paste in a standard gray color.
