Offering longer strokes, bigger payloads, and a rigid structure designed for speed, the fi rst model in in the new S5 line of all-servo Cartesian beam robots is available from Sepro America LLC, Pittsburgh. Model S5-35 is a mid-size model for presses of 350 to 700 tons. Smaller and larger S5 models will debut later this year and in 2011. Compared with a standard model in the current Generation 4 (G4) range, the S5-35 offers a 25% larger payload (33 lb) and 12.5% longer strip stroke (900 mm/35.5 in.). At the same time, the wrist and arm are actually 10% smaller, so the
mold does not need to open as far, saving cycle time. Speed is 11.5 ft/sec on the horizontal stroke of 1400 mm/55 in. Vertical stroke can be extended with an optional telescoping arm to 1800 mm/70 in.
