WEB EXCLUSIVE The X-Flex Blast Protection System is a composite of two layers of extruded TPU film on both sides of a nonwoven aramid-fiber scrim with a peel-and-stick acrylic adhesive on one side, protected by a clear, release-coated liner. It was developed by the Engineered Protective Systems div. of Berry Plastics Corp. in Franklin, Mass. (formerly Tyco Adhesives) in partnership with the U.S. Army Engineer R&D Center. X-Flex is designed to be applied to the inside of exterior brick or masonry walls to protect building occupants against shock waves, shrapnel, and flying debris after a bomb blast by absorbing the impact and holding the masonry in place. The product will be offered in military and commercial versions in 48-in.-wide rolls. It has dynamic shear strength of 5616 lb/sq ft and adhesion strength to masonry of 9 to 12 lb/in.
