New TPUs containing additives for laser marking are available from Bayer MaterialScience, Pittsburgh. They will be used initially for animal identification tags. These ester- and ether-based Desmopan grades utilize Micabs additive technology developed by DSM. These ready-to-use TPUs offer advantages for processors who previously had to incorporate laser-marking additives themselves. They are said to permit faster marking, higher contrast and definition, more subtle gray-scale levels, and higher reproducibility.
