Amcor Flexibles Schupbach in Burgdorf, Switzerland, has taken the Amcor FlexCan stand-up pouch, developed five years ago for snack foods, and converted it into a patented clear film “can” for water and other non-carbonated drinks. The new AquaFlexCan starts with the same tall, gusseted tube, which is filled in a Rovema form-fill-seal machine. Laser perforation allows the top of the Tear-n-Sip mouthpiece to be torn off to allow drinking directly from the pouch without a straw. The low-taste film used for water is a three-layer laminate of 15-micron OPP, 12-micron cast PET, and 60-micron blown PE film. The adhesive lamination is solvent-free. The package will be consumer tested in Switzerland in early July, then market tested in September. Tel: +41 (34) 421 5111 • www.amcor.com
