A novel dry-face pelletizer for reclaiming continuous film and edge-trim scrap has arrived in North America from Macchi Extrusion Technology in Italy, whose North American office is in Guelph, Ont. The Recotrim model uses a single extruder that has one screw longer than the other, thus transitioning from twin- to single-screw extrusion. The twin-screw section is 4.5:1 L/D, the single-screw 4.4:1. The corotating twin screws feed edge trim evenly at up to 90 lb/hr, with no need for a crammer. The unit can have either a venturi infeed or a pull-nip roller system.
