WEB EXCLUSIVE: Star-Line edge-gate nozzles with one to eight tips now come in a two-piece design with a body and crown. Heitec Hot Runner Systems of German, represented here by Technoject Machinery Corp., Bolton, Ont., says this means the edge-gate nozzles can be used with a wide range of materials, including difficult engineering resins, with a wider processing window than before. That’s because there are now separate heaters for the main body and the tip. Also, maintenance is fast and easy without disassembling the tips or crown.
The two-piece design also means that expansion length is no longer a limiting factor, and mold construction heights can be from 60 to 500 mm. The nozzle crown is fixed inside the cavity base plate, so the tips remain at the precise injection point. Gate diameters of 0.4 mm are now achievable. The crown can be designed for assembly from the back or front face of the cavity. Nozzles come in radial or linear design.

Editor PickBlock Cavities and Keep Molding
It goes against conventional wisdom, but molding with blocked cavities can be done while maintaining quality with the help of appropriate in-cavity sensors and process-control software.
