WEB EXCLUSIVE A one-component, clear, non-yellowing polymer system designed for bonding, sealing, coating and encapsulation applications is both UV and heat curable. Newly launched by Master Bond Inc., Hackensack, N.J., Master Bond UV15-7DC is a 100% reactive, urethane-modified epoxy acrylate system that does not contain any solvents or volatiles. It has a low viscosity of 1500 to 2500 cp at 25 C, and boasts outstanding durability, toughness, thermal-shock resistance, and adhesion to many substrates, including clear plastics such as acrylic, polycarbonate, polyester, ABS, and ASA, as well as glass and metals. It has a Shore D hardness >70, elongation of 65 to75%, and tensile strength of 5460 psi. Unlike many other UV-curing products, this system is not air-inhibited and reportedly exhibits a fast UV cure at ambient temperatures, even in section thicknesses of 0.125 in. or more. Typical cure times range from 5 sec to 2-3 min, depending on the UV wavelength and intensity and the thickness being cured. Typical heat-curing schedule is 10 to 30 min at 250 to 260 F. Heat curing is recommended for use in applications with “shadowed-out areas.” (201) 343-8983 • www.masterbond.com
