Set-up for medical tubing production is said to be made easier with a new hand-held digital “pot” that lets the operator remotely adjust the vacuum level in a cooling tank while watching the tubing enter the tank. Remote control is a feature of the new PAVC (Precision Automatic Vacuum Control) for the redesigned HT (High Tech) cooling tank from Conair, Pittsburgh. The digital potentiometer has 36 detent positions, each programmed for a specific value. The user chooses a detent position, rather than entering a value on a keypad. Resolution can be changed in increments from 0.1 to 1.0 in. of water for finer or broader tuning. Conair also eliminated exposed threads inside the tank, which are hard to disinfect, and moved the valves for water-level adjustment outside the tank, so operators can adjust water level in the tank while it is under vacuum with the lid closed.
