Two new types of valve-gate cylinders designed to retain maximum glass length in a molded part are new from Synventive Molding Solutions, Peabody, Mass. Its new HYC 4018 and PNC 7518 valve-gate cylinders are suited to all types of long-fiber processing, whether from pellets or direct compounding and molding with continuous rovings. The valve cylinders have larger cross-section, optimized edge design, and a large melt-flow channel that reduces stress at the gates by minimizing pressure, thereby reducing shear. The valve cylinders also feature a tapered or cylindrical shutoff, anti-twist needle lock for safe positioning of beveled nozzle tips relative to the needle, and ±1.5-mm needle-adjustment range in the press. The valve cylinders are suited to both hydraulic and pneumatic actuation.
