At the NPE show in Chicago, Comet Automation Systems, Inc., Dayton, Ohio, rolled out an improved version of its PE-300 vision system featuring six times greater screen resolution, giving it the ability to sense ultra-small parts or product details in just 0.03 sec. The system comes standard with one CCD camera and light source, with an optional second camera for larger or multi-cavity tools. A new repeat part ejection command instructs the molding machine to eject stuck parts again before sounding an alarm. Two new and retrofittable options are a HD (high-detectable) camera to provide an enhanced image and infrared lighting and camera to eliminate interference by fluctuating ambient lighting. The system checks parts for flash, short shots, contamination, or changes in surface appearance. Error-prevention software compensates for inconsistent mold-open position, vibrations, or brightness changes in the mold area. A small pendant screen mounts on the safety gate of the molding machine.
