Walter Surface Technologies’ Surfox weld electro-cleaning system is designed to be an alternative to highly toxic methods for weld cleaning and chemical passivation. The system replaces mechanical abrasion and pickling paste with an electrolyte solution, resulting in a safer industrial environment for workers and a more efficient work process that lowers costs and produces a consistent finish on stainless steel, the company says. Surfox is suited for the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, architectural, and transportation industries.

The system is available in three models. The 204 is the most versatile unit and is suited for a variety of jobs, while the 104 is suited for production work. The Surfox Mini is a light and portable machine suited for onsite jobs, touch-ups and repairs.

Recent improvements to the Surfox system includes improved internal circuitry, more machine settings, a new carbon fiber brush for precision cleaning, a large graphite insert and pad, and an improved passivation tester. Surfox electrolyte solutions are NSF-certified for use in the food industry and the Surfox system is ASTM-A967/ASTM-A380 certified for chemical passivation on stainless steel.
