A combination of new engineering features and chemistry allows Davis-Standard’s fastest extrusion coater, the Synergy 750, to coat at 750 meters/min vs. a top speed of 600 m/min when the machine was first built in 2004. It’s believed to be the fastest such line in the world. The chemistry of the adhesive coating even had to be specially tuned to coat and adhere at those speeds. Davis-Standard Converting Systems LLC is based in Fulton, N.Y. Synergy 750 incorporates improvements developed by engineers from Davis-Standard’s Egan, Er-We-Pa, and Black Clawson divisions. These include a soft, “floating” bump roll on the splicing mechanism, which conforms to the incoming roll for faster splicing. The laminator section and control technology were also redesigned. For fewer roll changes, the 750 winds rolls up to 85 in. wide and 50 in. diam. and automates unloading of much heavier rolls than are typical in plastics converting. One model of the latest system is being used to coat and laminate metalized OPP onto reverse-printed clear coex film for potato-chip bags. (315) 593-0359 • www.bc-egan.com
