WEB EXCLUSIVE A new version of S-3 glass tailored specifically for medical/dental implants is HPB glass fiber from AGY, Aiken, S.C. Available in a wide range of yarns, rovings, and chopped fibers, HPG glass is said to be suitable for long-term implants (over 30 days) and is compatible with a wide range of thermoplastics, including PEEK, polyetherimide (PEI), and PPS.
HPB fibers also reportedly provide greater toughness, stiffness, and strength than other glass fibers. HPB glass has 40% higher tensile strength and 20% higher tensile modulus than standard E-glass, according to AGY.
